People not from the South often wonder aloud about the origins of “Hee Haw.” Their answer is in clips like this one from the semi-legendary Lonzo & Oscar (intro by the terrific Marty Robbins). I just found a great old LP at my local Goodwill store. It’s on the long-forgotten Guest Star label and is entitled “Greatest Comedy Stars of the Grand Ole Opry.” It also includes bits by Homer & Jethro, Cousin Jody, Brother Oswald. Fun stuff and a bargain at just 99 cents. As I have said many times before, “One man’s junk is another man’s treasure!”

Oxford, Mississippi is a beautiful little college town. A very Southern town. And a foodie town. For a town of its size, Oxford has lots of interesting dining choices. New Orleans has always been one of our favorite cities to visit. Not only is there a lot to do, there is a lot to eat. This particular trip with our boys was going to be a combined Dixiedining.com eating tour of New Orleans and an educational History Class field trip. Our home base was […]
We’ve had a grand time, these past few months, eating our way around the Magnolia State of Mississippi. Travel, eat, travel, eat. Tough life, huh? We haven’t had much time to write about everything, but we’re putting together a great series of articles chronicling our trips with recommendations of some serious grub and cool things […]
A visit to Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood is like a trip outside the USA. The sights, the smells, the accents — you’ll feel like you’ve really journeyed to Cuba. For many of us, it will be the closest we ever get to the real deal. We only had a few brief hours to explore this […]
